A two-day weekend in Sreemangal can be one of the most refreshing experiences you'll have all year. The combination of natural beauty, cooler air, interesting activities, and genuinely good food makes it a destination that rewards even a short visit. Here's our recommended itinerary for a perfect Sreemangal weekend.
Morning (Arrive by 10am): Take the morning intercity train from Dhaka's Kamalapur or Airport station. The journey through the countryside is scenic and relaxed — a good way to mentally transition from city pace to Sreemangal pace. Arrive at Sreemangal station and take a local CNG auto-rickshaw to Litchibari Eco Resort (10–15 minutes).
Late Morning: Check in, freshen up, and have a cup of local tea on your verandah. Take a short walk through the resort grounds — the lychee trees, garden, and bird calls set the mood immediately.
Afternoon: Visit a nearby tea estate for a guided tour. Walk through the rows, talk to the garden workers, and learn how tea leaves are processed. The light in the tea gardens during mid-afternoon is remarkable for photography.
Evening: Try the famous seven-layer tea at Nilkantha Tea Cabin in town. Then return to the resort for dinner — the restaurant serves fresh Bengali home-style cooking. After dinner, sit outside and listen to the quiet. You'll sleep better here than you have in months.
Early Morning (6–8am): Wake up early and visit Lawachara National Park. This is the best time to see hoolock gibbons swinging through the forest canopy, and bird activity is at its peak. Take a guide — they know where to look and what you're hearing.
Late Morning: Return to the resort for a full breakfast. If time allows, visit Baikka Beel Bird Sanctuary — especially worthwhile if you're visiting October through March when migratory birds are present.
Midday: Have lunch at the resort or at a local restaurant in town. Try the duck meat curry — a Sreemangal speciality you won't easily find elsewhere.
Afternoon (Checkout by 11am): Check out and head back to Sreemangal town. Browse the local market, pick up some fresh tea to take home, and catch the afternoon train back to Dhaka.
